Aerial Refueling Systems
NEAR has been working with the Air Force and Navy to develop advanced hose-and-drogue-style aerial refueling systems.
NEAR has developed and wind tunnel tested a variable-speed drogue which can be used to refuel helicopters, tilt-rotor aircraft, and fixed wing aircraft without having to land the tanker to reconfigure the refueling system.
NEAR has also developed a simple and robust controllable drogue which can actively stabilize the hose and drogue to facilitate the refueling of manned and unmanned aircraft in even the worst of weather conditions.
